Slips, trips and falls can happen to anyone but they are more common and more significant the older we get.
They are one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in older Australians and consequently a major threat to the wellbeing and quality of life of older people. Falls are often dismissed as ‘a normal part of aging’ but a fall is a symptom that something is not right.
Recovery Station offers a falls prevention program that empowers older adults to embrace healthy behaviors that reduce the risk of falls. The program can be run as group or individual sessions. Topics include: reducing home hazards, moving safely in the home and community, safe footwear, vision, nutrition, medication management, and exercises to improve strength and balance.
