Often referred to as “Meditation in Motion” Tai Chi is a gentle exercise program in which the client is continually shifting their body weight from one foot to another as well as trunk and extremity rotation through fluid, slow, dance-like movements. This program can result in several benefits including;
- Reduction in falls & reduced fear of falling and anxiety
- Increased balance and strength, improving range of motion
- Decreased perceived pain
- Reduced blood pressure
- Reduced fatigue
Tai Chi is appropriate for most people because of its low intensity with low physical and mental tension. The ideal candidate is someone who is more mobile but can also be used with individuals who use mobility aids when exercises are modified. A pre and post assessment is taken to measure the outcomes of the program and clients are provided with information and support to continue with an exercise regime following the program.
